With both the NDP and the Liberals promising enhanced cancer care in Kamloops, the mayor says he has an idea where that equipment could go.
Ken Christian says repurposing space in the existing Royal Inland Hospital once the Patient Care Tower is complete is a possibility, though he says that’s not the only option out there.
“There is also a Phase 3 of our hospital improvement project that you know we have yet to start planning for and that could be another space,” he said. “A full service cancer clinic could be part of the Phase 3 discussion.”
“As we see the technology improve, both the costs of linear accelerators as well as the physical requirements to house them change. So we need to take a close look at that and work with BC Cancer to come up with a plan that would be unique to Royal Inland Hospital.”
On Saturday, NDP Leader John Horgan said a new cancer care centre will be up and running in Kamloops within four years if he is reelected as Premier. The BC Liberal party has also promised improved cancer care in Kamloops, if elected.
Christian previously told NL News that he was pleased by both of the cancer care promises from parties, saying the city wants to see results.
