B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating after a woman was seriously injured during an incident last Wednesday.
Kamloops RCMP were called just after 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 to a residential facility in the 1800-block of Greenfield Avenue to reports that a woman had threatened someone she knew and was running up and down hallways inside the building.
“When officers arrived and located the woman, she was allegedly in possession of a weapon. In an officer’s attempt to disarm the woman, she was injured,” said a statement from the RCMP.
“The woman was arrested but subsequently apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and assessment.”
Police say the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) was notified yesterday after police learned the woman’s injuries were serious.
“IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the woman’s injury,” the RCMP statement said. “As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.”
