As we near the end of the B.C. election campaign, the province’s top doctor says she has been impressed with how the campaign has come along.
Dr. Bonnie Henry says as far as she is concerned the five week long campaign went smoothly.
“People were biding their time wearing masks. The way it was set up met all of the criteria that we needed, so I think Elections BC has done an excellent job and I know that there has been a lot of people who have taken advantage of the mail in ballots,” she said.
“I’ve not heard of any concerns about people being ill or any transmission or even exposure events and we’ve been keeping in close contact with Elections BC through the last couple of weeks and as far as we can tell, things are going really well.”
The election campaign began on Sept. 21 and Election Day is tomorrow, Oct. 24.
“Each party developed a plan, a COVID safety plan and so we did review those and provided advice on things that we thought would be helpful in terms of what can and can’t be done and how to physically distance and the wearing of masks and advice about how to approach campaigning,” Henry added.
For people heading into vote today, Henry says there are plans in place to keep voters, election workers and candidates safe.
“If you are planning on voting in person, remember to give others the space to stay safe when going to vote, wash your hands before and after voting, and consider using a mask if distancing is a challenge,” she said last week.
“If you are self-isolating due to COVID-19 or are feeling unwell, you can still vote without going to a voting place. Contact Elections BC for more information.”
