Expect much better weather for Election Day in Kamloops tomorrow after an unseasonably high amount of snow today.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says while there will still be snow on the ground in some places, the worst of the storm will have passed us.
“Its entirely possible we’ll see some record lows in the Southwest Interior in the next couple of nights just because its going to be clear and cold,” he said. “A high of -1 C on Saturday isn’t going to melt it out. Its not over by any means but absolutely, it will be a much better day with the sun.”
Lundquist says the areas of most concern in the city as people go to vote will be sidewalks and some side roads.
“I really think people should get out and vote but stay safe and be very careful as you’re doing so as there are any areas that are still snowy or slippery,” he added.
Heading into next week, Lundquist says temperatures are are expected to warm up starting on Monday (currently forecast to be 4 C) and we should be back to near seasonal conditions by Wednesday, with a high of 10 C expected.
Polls on Election Day are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. As of this morning, Elections BC says it has received 480,000 mail-in ballots, with that number expected to grow by tomorrow night, with ballots due by 8 p.m. as well.
