B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating after a man died and a woman was injured when the vehicle they were in ended up in a ditch in Armstrong as a Mountie tried to stop it.
RCMP say the officer believed the light coloured Mazda 6 was stolen when he tried to pull it over on Highway 97A, early on Sunday morning.
Police say the man who was driving died at the scene, while a woman in the vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The IIO will be investigating what role, if any, police actions or inaction played in the death of the man.
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the man’s death. His identity has not been released.
