As of today, masks are required inside any city of Kamloops facility.
This follows comments from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry on Monday where she said she expects people to wear a mask in public places.
“We have found it necessary based on the number of cases of COVID-19 in the Interior Health Authority and the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia to ask that the public now wear a mask when entering and leaving any of our civic facilities,” said Mayor Ken Christian.
Christian says this mask policy will apply to places like City Hall, the Kamloops Museum, the Tournament Capital Centre, and city arenas.
“I know this has been a long grind, but we are in the second wave of COVID-19 now, and I think it really is important for the occupational health and safety of our staff as well as the safety of the public in the city of Kamloops to wear a mask whenever possible,” he added.
“We’re following the lead of many businesses in Kamloops that have already taken this step. Its a simple requirement that help us keep you and our staff healthier.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, there were 2,316 active COVID-19 cases across the province, 91 of which were in the Interior Health Authority.
