Merritt RCMP say over 100,000 cannabis plants were destroyed at a large, illegal cannabis grow operation off of Highway 8 last Friday.
Cpl. Derrick Francis says its after Health Canada notified police that the operators did not have a permit to grow cannabis or hemp on the rural property.
“The warrant was executed by Merritt RCMP; Central Interior Traffic Services; RCMP Air Services; RCMP Provincial Cannabis Coordinator; RCMP Indigenous members and a local contractor,” Francis said, noting the value of product that was destroyed was about $8-million.
He is reminding people that they can grow up to four cannabis plants at home for personal use and anything more than that could result in fines or charges under the Federal Cannabis Act.
Its unclear at this time if there were charges laid in connection to this operation.
