After setting a new record for construction activity for the fourth straight year in September, the city of Kamloops issued another $19.1 million in building permits in the month of October.
Building and Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon says the monthly numbers weren’t as high as previous months or when compared to the $37-million in permits issued in October 2019, but he tells NL News it was not a surprise.
“We didn’t have any big permits. I think we’ve all grown accustomed to those exciting statistics of giant projects. This was more just kind of an average month I think. I think it was a strong month,” he said. “Residentially I think we did well. We are continuing to see there is lots of construction activity in the community.”
In fact, he says it was a great sight to see 14 permits issues for single family homes last month.
“The single family dwellings has always been kind of our bread and butter if you go back a number of years and is a big component of the Home Builders Association membership,” he added. “So to see that continued sort of activity in that single family dwellings is good news.”
In all, about 86 per cent of permits issued in October were for residential construction for a total of $16.5-million in value.
The total of value of permits issued this year in Kamloops is now over $366-million dollars.
