A three-day visit to Kamloops by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) led to seizures of money, weapons, and drugs.
The weapons seized included knives, a sword, bear spray, a throwing axe, brass knuckles, a revolver air soft gun, and a pistol-grip-modified-shotgun, along with over 1,000 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition.
Spokesperson Sgt. Brenda Winpenny says their officers worked alongside members of the Kamloops RCMP and it focused of people believed to be posing the greatest risk to public safety due to their involvement in gang or organized crime activity.
“While Uniform Gang Enforcement Team is based in and spends time in Lower Mainland jurisdictions, members also regularly deploy to communities around the province, either proactively or reactively, to provide short term support to local police agencies,” she said. “CFSEU-BC uses both its own crime and intelligence analysts, as well as analytical resources in the jurisdictions that UGET travels to, in order to ensure CFSEU-BC resources are as effective and impactful as they can be.”
Over the three days in Kamloops, there were 133 vehicles that were stopped and 260 people – mostly connected to the street-level drug trade – who were checked. In addition to the weapons, over $33,000 in cash, and substantial quantities of suspected heroin, fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana was seized.
“We know that in the drug and organized crime community there is a significant amount of violence which involves weapons and firearms and affects lives. Getting these off the street will make our community a safer place,” said Kamloops RCMP Superintendent Syd Lecky.
“To those still involved in the drug trade in Kamloops, we will continue to prioritize our efforts to target you and anyone committing violence towards our residents.”
