The ICBC driver licensing office in Kamloops is one of five locations in the province that will be piloting a new appointment-only system.
Spokesperson Joanna Linsangan says the change which will take effect next Monday, Nov. 23, means there will be no more people lining up waiting for service, which in turn will reduce the number of people inside the offices making it easier for people to physical distance.
Depending on availability, people may be able to book an appointment on the same day, or up to 12 weeks in advance. Once an appointment is booked, there will be a confirmation email as well as two reminders with instructions sent ahead of the appointment.
People who are unable to book an appointment can still visit the Kamloops office between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Monday to Friday.
“Based on the results of the pilot, ICBC may consider making these changes permanent, expanding the pilot to other offices, or returning to taking walk-in customers and appointments, at all times,” Linsangan said.
In addition to Kamloops, ICBC driver licensing offices at Burnaby Metrotown, Victoria Wharf Street, Richmond Lansdowne, and Surrey Guildford will also pilot the new system.
People can make appointments online or by calling 1 (800) 950-1498.
