
For the fourth time in five days, a daily record has been set for new COVID-19 cases in B.C.
Health officials say there are 717 new cases of the virus today, as well as 11 deaths. The virus has killed 20 people in B.C. in the past four days.
There are now a record 6,589 active cases of the virus in B.C., up from 6,279 yesterday.
There are also now 198 people in hospital with the virus and 63 people in intensive. Yesterday, there were 181 hospitalizations and 57 people in ICU.
In the Interior, there have been 18 new cases of the virus reported in the past day and there are now 193 active cases, with two people in hospital and one person in intensive care.
There remains one case, an employee, linked to an outbreak at The Hamlets at Westsyde care home, and there remains 10 cases with IH at an outbreak at the Royal Inland Hospital patient care tower, as well as an undisclosed number of other cases in other health authorities. IH said there were 11 yesterday, but made a correction today.
“We need everyone working together to stay small, stay local and help us slow the spread of COVID-19 in our province,” Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says.
“We have seen an increase in new cases on Vancouver Island, in the Interior and in the North, many of which are connected to travel to and from the Lower Mainland. That is why is it important that we stay local and travel less right now.”
Yesterday, Interior Health’s medical health officer in Kamloops, Dr. Carol Fenton, told NL Newsday contact tracers are getting overwhelmed in the Interior, and she says Halloween parties are a main source of new cases in the past two weeks.
- IH is reporting 18 new cases overnight, for a total of 1,106.
- 193 cases are active and on isolation
- Two people are in hospital with one in ICU.
- Total number of deaths in IH remains at three.
