A deadly day on the COVID-19 front in B.C. with another 738 new cases and 13 new deaths, a new single day record.
Seventy of the new cases were in the Interior Health Authority, a new single day record for cases in the region, the previous record being 44 cases in a 24-hour-period. There are now 336 active cases in the Interior with five people in hospital, none in ICU.
Active cases provincewide are now 7,616 with 294 people in hospital – a new single day record – of which 61 are in ICU.
“It is important for all of us to stay within one bubble,” Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said, while again reminding British Columbians that masks are mandatory in all public indoor spaces.
“If you see somebody without a mask, have compassion. People who are unable to wear a mask must be accommodated.”
The COVID-19 death toll is now up to 371 with 81 people have lost their lives to COVID in the last 12 days, while the total case load is up to 29,086.
A further 10,270 people are currently in isolation after being exposed to someone with a case of the virus. And there are 19,814 people considered to have recovered after coming down with the virus.
In the meantime, Dr. Henry also noted a data correction from Fraser Health which was a result of a recording glitch that skewed numbers over the past week or so. She says the data from some days were over-reported while others were under-reported. That data has been corrected below as below:
- Nov. 16 — (461 initially reported cases) 324 actual cases
- Nov. 17 — (484) 343
- Nov. 18 — (481) 537
- Nov. 19 — (308) 417
- Nov. 20 — (294) 610
- Nov. 21 — (488) 634
- Nov. 22 — (469) 525
- Nov. 23 — (347) 432
- Nov. 24 — (678) 443
That correction means the province did not set a single day record with 941 cases yesterday – it did report 706 cases, but it did set a record last Saturday with 859 cases in a 24-hour period.
“I know we had a dramatic increase in the daily numbers, that was a result of some of these data coming in at different times. So we apologize,” Henry added.
