The New Afton Mine has had two workers test positive for COVID-19.

The test results came back on Friday and Saturday, and NewGold says the two workers are now self-isolating at home.

The cases are not believed to be linked.

All workers at the mine have been notified and close contacts have also been contacted directly by heal officials.

NewGold employs about 500 people at it’s mine just west of Kamloops, and this is the first COVID-19 exposure it has reported since the pandemic began.

This comes as Interior Health reported 132 new cases between Wednesday and Friday last week.
