Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP have a man in custody after they were called to a possible shooting in a house in the 700-block of East Shuswap Road this morning.
Sgt. Darren Michels says police were called around 9:30 a.m. to reports that a man was shot inside the house, but he says that wasn’t the case. Officers surrounded the house and began to call people out of the house one at a time.
Police did seize two pellet guns after the house was evacuated, and Michels says an investigation is ongoing.
“Our initial response to a potentially high-risk call will always be to err on the side of caution until we can determine otherwise,” he said. “Our response is always measured and includes an ongoing risk assessment as it is easier to scale back a response, than scale up. We do this to ensure public and police safety.”
Michels says the man who was arrested had an outstanding warrant for an unrelated matter. He was released with a future court date to come.
