The mayor of Revelstoke says getting specific information played a big part in residents cutting off a cluster of COVID-19 cases.
The cluster quickly grew to 46 cases two weeks ago, but only grew to 50 cases, and it’s now been contained as of Dec. 11.
Speaking on the NL Noon Report, mayor Gary Sulz says the 50 cases included the catchment area for the local Queen Victoria Hospital.
“I think with the numbers that are coming out of the BC CDC and Interior Health, letting us know how many numbers were in the community, and actually being able to watch. And then for those of us to be able to say ‘hey, this is serious, we need to knock this down.’ That all helped.”
B.C. has not given specific case numbers for communities except when there has been an outbreak or a cluster of cases.
“Now that we’re looking at that, it will kind of go back to, you know, if there’s one or two cases, we may not hear that in the exact same format. However, Interior Health has heard us saying ‘you guys have done very well.’ So we’ll see how it moves forward,” Sulz says.
