Interior Health has issued a drug alert for the Kamloops area and is warning of a toxic substance being sold in the region.
The health authority says the purple, chunky substance is being sold as heroin but it contains benzodiazepines and fentanyl. There is a high risk of overdose and people may not respond to naloxone.
People who use drugs are being urged to check any substances before using it and to not use alone. They’re also being urged to use the Lifeguard App and to have a naloxone readily available.
This alert will be in effect for a week, until Dec. 23.
