UPDATE: 5:10 p.m.
A fire at D&G Gill Tire and Auto in the Mount Paul Industrial Park is not suspicious in nature.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Capt. Erin Holloway says crews were called to the fire in a shed at the business on Mount Paul Way around 3:00 p.m. Police and BC Ambulance were also on scene.
“It looks like it’s been contained to the rear back corner, and we’ve just still got crews putting it out. It’s full of mechanical equipment, automotive equipment, a lot of tires, so it’s going to be a stubborn fire to put out,” Holloway told NL News.
NL’s Victor Kaisar reported the smell of burning rubber and thick black smoke at times while on location.
There’s no word yet on a cause, but the city of Kamloops said the fire was under control as of 4:50 p.m.
RCMP Sgt. Jeff Bingley says there were no injuries noting that while crews will be on scene for some time, Mount Paul Way has reopened to traffic.
And Holloway says the building was empty when the fire broke out.
Capt. Erin Holloway – “it appears the structure was full of mechanical and auto equipment…not as easy as wood to put out.”
The fire appears to be contained to the rear back corner but you can still see some smoke, though not as thick as before. #Kamloops @RadioNLNews pic.twitter.com/jVLZx3C1vs
