A small outdoor cannabis producer in Westsyde has just finished a rigorous process of getting a license from Health Canada.
Dunesberry Farms will grow on nine-and-a-half acres and process the product on site, at its property adjacent to The Dunes Golf Course, according to president and CEO Bill Bilton Jr.
He says they’re now in the process of getting a secondary license which will allow them to sell to the B.C. government, which will then distribute its products in public and private stores.
“And that enables us to get into the 2.0 products, which are the gummies, the edibles and extracts. And with that processing license we could also then sell directly to the provincial government, whereas we currently sell to the other (licensed producers) across Canada,” Bilton says.
“We’re further ahead and better-served by sending our product to a professional extractor who would then do product in bulk for us, send it back to us, and our group would then take it to packaging and distribution. It’s actually a cost-saver versus trying to do it all in-house.”
Bilton says Dunesberry Farms will employ seven people year-round and more than 20 during peak season. He says the first product the site will be distributed to cannabis stores next fall.
The craft cannabis facility is the first of its kind within Kamloops city limits.
