DriveBC says the Coquihalla Highway has been shut down this afternoon between Hope and Merritt.
The closure was reported at 1:15 p.m. and there’s no word on when the highway could reopen. DriveBC says another update will now be given at 6 p.m.
This comes as a winter storm warning is in place for the Coquihalla Highway, with up to 55 centimetres of snow in the forecast before the storm tapers off tonight. At time of posting, 32 cm of snow had fallen at the Zopkios brake check, near the Coquihalla Summit, in the past seven-and-a-half-hours.
A travel advisory remains in place for both stretches of the Coquihalla and for the Okanagan Connector. Heavy continues to fall across the entire southern Interior as of early Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, east of Kamloops, the Trans-Canada Highway will be closed at Rogers Pass starting at 3 p.m. today for avalanche control work. The closure is expected to last until midnight, with no detour in place, according to DriveBC.
