The Independent Investigation Office is looking into a shoplifting incident in Kamloops on Saturday night where the suspect was hurt with his own weapon.
RCMP Sgt. Janelle Shoihet says Kamloops RCMP were called to a business at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 300-block of Tranquille Road.
Shoihet says an employee locked the doors so that the man couldn’t leave before police arrived. The man had a weapon on him, and he was injured with it before being arrested.
Further details on exactly what happened haven’t been provided, but the suspect was treated by police and ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to hospital.
It’s also not clear if charges have been recommended against the alleged shoplifter.
But the IIO is now investigating whether police actions played a role in the man’s injuries.
