The Kamloops Children’s Arts Festival will be going ahead this year but it’ll be different, just like everything else in 2020.
The Kamloops Arts Council does the festival every September at Riverside Park but it was postponed this year because of the pandemic.
Western Canada Theatre’s Artistic Director, James McDonald says the festival will be happening and although it’s online, kids can still participate. “It’s interactive, it’s not just watching something. There’s actually a lot of interactive things that kids can do and they’re doing it three times during the day so you can figure out when the kids are off school it can be 10:00 in the morning, it could be one in the afternoon or later in the day.”
“It’s a great way to get kids involved with art. It’s a great way to have them have some activities, they aren’t sitting in front of the tube or going out in the rain and a lot of different entertainers from the city are going to be involved with it as well.”
McDonald knows Christmas will be different this year, especially for children. “I know a lot of kids are going to be disappointed this year. There’s not going to be normal visits with the grandparents or anything like that so this is really good opportunity and they’re aiming it for kids four and up so it really does run the gamut of a lot of different activities.”
The Children’s Arts Festival begins today and runs through the 25th.
