A social advocate who helps run The Loop Drop-In Centre in North Kamloops says he’d like to see improvements to COVID testing processes for the homeless.
Glenn Hilke says he’s suggested to Interior Health the creation of a sort of permission slip or waiver, allowing social service agencies to share a person’s test result with each other.
That way, he says those with no fixed address or phone could find out their result at whatever program they show up at.
“This type of release of information – permission – you could call it a waiver if you like. That exists already for you know – other kinds of services. So its not far fetched to think that we can extend this even on a temporary basis.”
The issue hit home for Hilke he says, after a client at The Loop tested positive – but nobody was able to reach the person for three days. Since that time, one more person associated with the drop-in centre has tested positive.
