A new tower with affordable housing for seniors in downtown Kamloops is set to rise by next summer.
The building at the corner of 6th Avenue and Victoria Street will have 112 units for seniors, as well upwards of 17,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
Housing manager for the Kamloops Centre for Seniors Information, Brenda Prevost, says the construction timeline has not changed even with challenges from COVID-19.
“They didn’t really close down construction during the pandemic. They had fewer workers because some were cautious. But they’ve made up the difference in time and they’re actually right on schedule, so we’re really happy about that.”
The building will have studio units and one- and two-bedroom units for people aged 55 and older, with rent prices expected to range from $375 to $1,200 per month.
The B.C. government provided $11.2 million dollars to build the project, and will provide annual funding to CSI Kamloops to manage it.
