One man is in custody after a break and enter at a Kamloops business in Aberdeen where a suspect stole a firearm.
On New Year’s Day at about 1 p.m., Const. Crystal Evelyn says police were called to the incident at a business in the 1400-block of Hillside Drive.
Evelyn says police were informed a firearm might have been stolen, which led to a more significant police presence.
While the incident was unfolding, NL News observed a number of police cruisers set up on Notre Dame Drive near Laval Crescent, on Hillside Drive near Cariboo Place and further up Hillside Drive in a parking lot near Pacific Way. Officers had guns drawn as well.
A suspect fled near Notre Dame Drive as police approached, but Evelyn says that person was arrested shortly after. A stolen firearm was also found in the parking lot of a nearby business.
Kamloops man Daniel McClintock, 33, is now facing charges of break and enter and stealing a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited, mischief and breach of probation.
McClintock has a criminal record dating back 10 years. He will appear in court next on Jan. 11.
