In the first four days of 2021, the B.C. has reported 2,211 new cases of COVID-19 and 45 new deaths.
In Interior Health, there have been 288 new cases reported and four deaths from the virus since New Year’s Day. In IH, there have now been 4,177 total cases and 32 deaths.
There are now 6,823 active cases from the virus across the province, with 351 people in hospital and 76 people in intensive care.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says most of the 45 deaths in recent days were seniors in the province, and she says at least two elders in First Nations communities also died from the virus in that time.
Meanwhile, Henry also says more than 24,000 people have received a vaccine dose against COVID-19.
