The BC Liberals should have more detail to share “early in the new year” about the party’s leadership process.
That’s according to Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Todd Stone, who told NL News two weeks ago that MLAs hadn’t heard any details yet from the party.
“But the party is ultimately going to have to put some clarity out there, in terms of what the details are going to be for a leadership process. Everything from timing to how will the vote actually be undertaken, to fundraising limits and so forth… We should expect to get more details on all of the above early in the new year.”
Stone also said he would be taking the holiday break to decide whether he will again be seeking party leadership.
“Well we’ll see. I’m certainly taking a long, hard look at it. I’ve been greatly encouraged by a lot of people who are suggesting that I should do it again and that they would support me. Both here in Kamloops and across the province, so that’s been very humbling.”
Meanwhile, Stone says Shirley Bond has done a “tremendous job” as the interim caucus leader, saying she brought focus and tough questioning in the two-week fall sitting of the BC Legislature. Bond will remain interim caucus leader through the winter session at the Legislature.
Former leader Andrew Wilkinson stepped down in the fall after the party’s worst election result in B.C. in nearly 30 years, with the Liberals losing 13 seats in the October election. Wilkinson is the only one out of 28 Liberal MLAs who is not part of the shadow cabinet for the Official Opposition.
