A bizarre theft of a tiny home in the Fraser Canyon has been found in Lillooet by RCMP.
It was reported stolen three days after Christmas, on Dec. 28, from someone’s property on the Trans-Canada Highway in Boston Bar. No one was home at the time of the theft.
Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the tiny home was eight feet wide and 17 feet long, with cedar siding and solar panels. He says a thief loaded onto a flat deck and drove away.
On New Year’s Eve, someone reached out to police saying someone tried to sell them a tiny home, which matched the description of the one that was stolen.
O’Donaghey says police then showed up at the seller’s house in Lillooet, instead of the buyer, and one person was arrested.
Police returned with a search warrant this past Sunday, Jan. 3, and police recovered the tiny home and other items stolen from the property in Boston Bar. Mounties also recovered a generator that had been stolen in the North Okanagan.
All told, the items seized by police were worth more than $80,000 dollars.
A 48-year-old man from Lillooet now faces several charges, and will appear in court on March 9. He has been released with conditions.
