Interior Health says it expects all staff to follow strict public health guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Spokesperson Chris Shewchuk made that comment in response to allegations that Kamloops public health manager Leanne Calvin travelled to Mexico over Christmas.
He was asked if Calvin will be punished or forced to resign, and if IH will apologize to other residents who have followed public health guidelines.
He did not answer those questions, but responded by saying human resource matters are confidential.
“Interior Health has advised all staff to follow public health guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including avoiding non-essential travel at this time. The Provincial Health Officer’s guidance to stay home except for essential travel has been reiterated to all staff on a regular basis,” Shewchuk says.
“And Interior Health expects everyone, including staff, to be following strict public health guidance that protects ourselves, and loved ones, from COVID-19. Interior Health would investigate all allegations, and take all allegations seriously, but HR matters are kept confidential.”
The allegations of Calvin’s travel have led to widespread public concerns in the Kamloops area.
She has not responded to a request for comment from NL News about the allegations.
The B.C. government is now seeking legal advice about it’s guidance on non-essential travel out of B.C. Currently, it is not against to law to travel for recreation, but health officials and governments have strongly discouraged it because of the pandemic.
