School District 73 is reporting an exposure of COVID-19 at Marion Schilling Elementary School in Valleyview.
In a letter to parents from Principal Gord Cumming, he says the exposure happened last Thursday, Jan. 14.
This exposure is in addition to three more exposures at Kamloops schools last week – at Juniper Ridge Elementary, South Kamloops Secondary (which had a previous exposure event on Jan. 7 and 8), and at Valleyview Secondary.
Health officials are contact tracing in the hopes of identifying people who may have come in direct contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19.
“If you are not contacted by Interior Health Authority, it has been determined that your child is not at risk of developing COVID-19,” Cumming said.
No further details will be released by SD73 to protect the privacy of people who test positive. People who have questions or concerns about COVID-19, are asked to call 811.
There have now been exposures of COVID-19 at 12 schools in the Kamloops-Thompson School District, seven of which have happened in the past two weeks since students returned to class after the winter break.
Superintendent Terry Sullivan is urging people to follow provincial guidelines in order to prevent further transmission of the virus.
