Interior Health is confirming that one person has died of COVID-19 at Gemstone Care Centre in Brocklehurst.
The health authority did not release further details at this time, but it did confirm that the outbreak has grown to 20 cases, including 16 residents and four staff members.
The outbreak was first declared six days ago, on Jan. 13, and it’s the first long-term care home in Kamloops where any residents have gotten COVID-19.
As of yesterday, there were nine active COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care or assisted living facilities in Interior Health. That includes one facility in each of Kamloops, Williams Lake, Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton and Oliver, and at three facilities in Vernon.
