The New Afton Mine just outside of Kamloops has reported another case of COVID-19.
Spokesperson Sam Numsen says the company was made aware of the case on Monday, Jan. 25, and the person affected has not been on site this week.
Numsen says all affected areas have been cleaned by a HAZMAT team and that contract tracing has been completed. He says back in December, employees began wearing contact tracing devices which help with the process in the event of a positive case.
“The investigation is considered complete and any close contacts, as defined by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, have been notified and are self-isolating for 14 days,” Numsen said. “At the time of release, no close contacts have developed symptoms. All employees were notified of this positive case.”
This is the now the seventh total case of COVID-19 reported among the workforce at the copper and gold mine since the pandemic began almost a year ago.
