Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir, the Chief of Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc has tested positive for COVID-19.
“I am an example of someone who had kept my bubble small, upheld all the safety precautions, wore a mask, washed my hands, and still caught the virus,” she said, in an statement. “I am proof that even one person from your household can bring the virus home.”
Casimir also says it is important for people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to stay mentally focused and be positive about the future.
“You are not alone and have a supportive team at TteS and Q’wemtsín Health Society (QHS) to assist you,” she said.
She notes her diagnosis shows that the COVID-19 virus does not discriminate. She will be in self-isolation until at least February 13, and she’s optimistic that she will fully recover.
“Take every precaution that you can. Continue to practice and limit exposure. Stay home as much as possible and if you are not feeling well, stay home,” she said. “The more we practice this, the sooner we can limit the spread and get us closer to a more social normal, one day.”
And like provincial health officials, Casimir is reminding people to avoid gathering for Super Bowl parties this weekend telling them to opt for virtual gatherings instead.
