It will be about a week before we snap out of this cold snap in the Kamloops area, according to forecasters.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says we could be back to daily highs just above freezing in the next seven-to-10 days.
“And that probably means it’s going to be a little warmer on the weekend, with snow and perhaps freezing rain. So we’ll have to watch for that. More will come on that as we go through the week and see how it’s actually going to warm up… So even if we get back to normal for the middle of next week it’ll feel warmer,” Lundquist says.
“But there’s a 100 per cent chance, in my career of 30 years, we never get out of cold air without a headache. And that’s what I’m wondering for maybe as early as the weekend, even though we aren’t publishing that. But if it isn’t the weekend it should be early next week, that there’s still some uncertainty around that.”
At time of posting, temperatures in Kamloops are expected to be as low as minus-22 degrees overnight this week, and closer to minus-30 in the North Thompson and southern Cariboo.
