Interior Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in a Kamloops group home known as Highridge Home and Singh House on the North Shore.
It says six staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, and contact tracing is underway to find other people who may have been exposed to the virus.
Highridge Home and Singh House are privately operated by Prima Enterprises meant for people who require 24-hour support. The two houses are on separate floors of the same building at 1099 and 1097 Singh Street respectively.
“Interior Health communicable disease specialists and a clinical operations team will continue to monitor the situation and additional infection control measures have been implemented to prevent further COVID-19 transmission,” a statement from IHA says.
“To protect the safety of all residents, outbreak protocols are in place, including a pause in all visits at this site.”
According to the Prima Enterprises website, Highridge Home is a two bed resource on the top level of a house funded by Community Living B.C. (CLBC). It is currently home to two people who are assisted by staff 24 hours a day.
Singh House meanwhile is a four-bed fully accessible resource on the ground floor of a house. It is home to one lady who requires a level, unobtrusive, and accessible living arrangement.
This is the fourth healthcare facility in Kamloops with an active outbreak of COVID-19.
There were no new cases reported at the Royal Inland Hospital outbreak yesterday which remains at 102 cases – 66 staff and 36 patients – with 46 active cases.
The outbreak at the Westsyde Care Residences remains at 26 cases – 14 residents and 12 staff – with 24 active cases, while the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre outbreak remains at 25 cases – 17 residents and eight staff – with two active cases.
