
B.C. health officials are reporting 469 new cases of COVID-19 in the province today, including 46 in Interior Health.
There were also six deaths from the virus reported today, including one in Kamloops at the Westsyde Care Residences. In all, there were two deaths in Interior Health, the other at Noric House in Vernon.
Among other health authorities, there were 100 cases today in Vancouver Coastal Health, 243 in Fraser Health, 25 in Island Health, 53 in Northern Health, and two among people who live outside of Canada.
Province-wide, there are now 4,305 active cases of the virus, with 230 people in hospital and 66 people in intensive care. In the Interior, there are 912 active cases with 45 people in hospital, 17 in ICU.
B.C. has also now distributed 157,797 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 14,316 of which are second doses.
Heading into the Family Day Long Weekend, people are being told to stay local and avoid gathering with people outside their households.
“The risks from COVID-19 remain high for all of us, especially with the variants of concern, which is why staying in our local community and avoiding any unnecessary travel is so important right now,” said a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry. “By choosing small and safe for you and everyone around you, we can slow the virus and keep our positive momentum going.”
A total of 66,167 people are considered to have recovered from COVID-19, about 92 per cent of the total 71,856 cases in British Columbia.
