It’s the home stretch for the Secretary-Treasurer for the Kamloops-Thompson School District as he’s set to retire after a 24-year career with the district.
Kelvin Stretch joined SD73 as an accounting supervisor in 1997 before working his way to CFO and Secretary-Treasurer in 2008, where he currently oversees the district’s $205-million budget.
“It’s been a pleasure working at SD73,” Stretch said, in a statement. “I equate the work to playing for a Stanley Cup championship team with all-star staff led by incredibly dedicated board members. I have worked with five terrific, yet different Boards of Education as well as a tremendous complement of staff in all departments who are dedicated to making SD73 the great school district it is today.”
Interim Superintendent Terry Sullivan accepted his resignation at this week’s board meeting on Feb. 8.
“When I hired Kelvin to be secretary-treasurer I had very high expectations of him. He quickly exceeded all those expectations and proved that he was not only a solid accountant but that he had great interpersonal skills and was a superb manager of people,” Sullivan said.
“The positive outlook and perspective that he brings to work every day are going to be missed by all of us who work closely with him.”
Stretch’s last day will be July 31, and SD73 will be putting together a process to choose his successor immediately.
