B.C. health officials have reported 1,533 new COVID-19 cases over the long weekend as well 26 deaths.
That case count includes the past four days. In Interior Health, there were 92 new cases and five deaths in that time.
Over the long weekend, there were also 856 new cases in Fraser Health, 392 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 135 cases in Northern Health and 58 cases in Island Health.
There are now 4,189 active cases in the province and 231 people in hospital with the virus, and 74 of those people are in intensive care. The active case count is 158 fewer than Friday, while there are five more people in hospital and 13 more people in intensive care.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry also says there are now 60 COVID-19 cases with a “variant of concern” in B.C. Those include 40 cases with the U.K. variant, 19 with the South African variant and one with the Nigerian variant.
The mutation from Nigeria has just been declared variant of concern as of today by scientists. The only case of it in B.C. so far is in Interior Health.
Meanwhile, there have now been 171,755 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the province, including nearly 23,000 second doses.
Henry says as of today, vaccine shipments from Pfizer are back on track, and says doses being sent to B.C. are ramping up this week.
