B.C. health officials say there were 427 new cases of COVID-19 today, as well as three deaths from the virus.
In Interior Health there were 47 new cases today, and across IH there are now 723 active cases with 27 people in hospital and 11 people in intensive care units.
By health authority, there were also 236 new cases today in Fraser Health, 90 cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, 31 in Northern Health and 18 in Island Health.
There are now 4,150 active cases in B.C., with 232 people in hospital with the virus and 63 people in intensive care.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says COVID-19 cases are starting to stabilize in Interior Health, and in Island Health.
But, she says that’s far from the picture across B.C.
“We are very concerned that in some of our higher-population areas, particularly in the Fraser Health region and Vancouver Coastal Health region, we are starting to see an uptick. And what we see in terms of cases today reflects what has happened as long as two weeks ago.”
Henry was also concerned about high numbers of cases in Northern Health over the long weekend.
She says even small social gatherings can spread exponentially in the community, and is asking people to continue avoiding social gatherings, while reiterating that more supply of vaccine doses is on the way.
Meanwhile, there were zero new cases today at any of the four healthcare facility outbreaks in Kamloops, which are at the Royal Inland Hospital (105), the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre (32), Westsyde Care Residences (30) and Highridge Home and Singh House (13 cases).
The province has now administered 176,015 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is up more than 4,000 doses since yesterday.
