Interior Health is warning about a percocet being sold on the streets of Kamloops that contains fentanyl.
Health officials say the drug is a white pill with the letters “TEC” stamped onto it. After being tested at ASK Wellness, it was deemed to have fentanyl and acetaminophen, which is another painkiller.
The drug combination poses a high risk of an opioid overdose for users.
Anyone using drugs is recommended not to use drugs alone, and to consider using Interior Health’s new Lifeguard app that can connect someone to 911 if they overdose.
Drug-checking services and take-home fentanyl test strips are available at ASK Wellness, at 433 Tranquille Road, from Monday to Friday. Naloxone kits, which can reverse an overdose, are also available at ASK Wellness, at Interior Health facilities on Lansdowne Street and Columbia Street, and at various pharmacies.
This latest drug warning will be in place for a week, until Feb. 24.
Last week, the BC Coroners Service confirmed that 2020 was the worst year ever for fatal overdoses in B.C., with a record 1,716 across the province as well as a record 60 in Kamloops.
