B.C. reported 508 new COVID-19 cases today and six new deaths from the virus.
That included 59 cases and four deaths in Interior Health; the breakdown of where those deaths were in IHA has not been provided. The other two deaths were in Fraser Health.
Among other health authorities, there were 286 cases today in Fraser Health, 116 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 25 in Northern Health and 22 in Island Health.
There are 217 people in hospital and 61 of those people are in intensive care, while 4,486 cases are active.
Meanwhile, just under 193,000 vaccine doses have now been administered and almost 37,000 of those are second doses.
Deputy Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Reka Gustafson, says 12,250 vaccine doses were administered yesterday, which she says is the most in any single day so far in B.C.
“This is very good news. Because with every individual that is protected with vaccination, we are all safer.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, about 9,000 vaccine doses combined were given out. Including Thursday’s extra 12,250 doses, in the past four weeks just 82,376 vaccine doses have gone out. The province has assured, though, that as of this week, vaccine doses are “back on track.”
Health Minister Adrian Dix says more than half of the shots given out yesterday were second doses.
Meanwhile, Dix says a report about vaccine doses at long-term care homes has now been released. He says there was a 91 per cent uptake in care homes when residents and staff were offered a vaccine dose.
Dix says province-wide, 92 per cent of people have taken a vaccine dose when offered.
