The city of Kamloops says one of its Community Services (Bylaw) Officers has tested positive for COVID-19.
City Manager David Trawin says this person is self-isolating at home and is being supported by City staff and public health officials.
“The employee may have had minimal contact with the public in their work for the City on the North Shore last Thursday, Feb. 18 and Friday, Feb. 19, but we can confirm that they used personal protective equipment and physical distancing during that time,” Trawin said, in a statement.
It is unclear whether the employee got the virus at work, in the community, or elsewhere, but Trawin told NL News that bylaw officers have more contact with the general public than other city employees.
The city will not be releasing the identity of the employee, and Interior Health is contact tracing to find people who may be at risk.
“We are following our established safety protocols related to workplace exposure and cleaning, as the well-being of our employees our community remains our highest priority,” Trawin said.
This is the third city employee to have tested positive for COVID-19, and the second one in the last two weeks.
A full complement of City of Kamloops bylaw officers is close to 20, according to Trawin.
