An off-duty Kamloops RCMP officer arrested a man who tried getting into a vehicle while it was stopped in traffic.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the incident happened this past Saturday, Feb. 20, around 3:40 p.m., when a vehicle that was heading downtown was stopped at Columbia Street and Third Avenue.
“The man allegedly approached the vehicle from the south, tried to open its rear passenger door, and told its occupants to give him their stuff,” she said. “An off-duty police officer emerged from inside and arrested the man, holding him in custody until on-duty officers arrived.”
Evelyn says the man was taken into custody while police investigated but he was later released with no charges laid.
Police say the man claimed that he had the wrong vehicle and that he thought he had been waved over when he tried to open the door of the vehicle.
