A COVID-19 exposure has been reported at Arthur Hatton Elementary School in Kamloops.
According to Interior Health, the exposure was on three days last week Mar. 2, 3, and 4.
There are now five active school exposures in the Kamloops area, four in schools run by the Kamloops-Thompson School District. with active exposures also at Beattie Elementary, Savona Elementary, and Brock Middle School.
The other Kamloops-area exposure is at the Sk’elep School of Excellence on Tk’emlups te Secwepemc.
As has been the policy, school officials say if parents haven’t been contacted by public health teams, their kids are not at risk of developing COVID-19. If you have questions or concerns about COVID-19, you’re also asked to contact 811.
The Medical Officer for Kamloops, Dr. Carol Fenton, says they’re continuing to keep an eye on COVID-19 exposures in schools in the area. She made that comment as there were as many as 12 active schools exposures on Monday afternoon before that number dropped yesterday.
“Most often, someone school-aged is exposed from a parent or someone else in the community, they get infected and they bring it to school,” Fenton said.
“We’re not seeing widespread transmission in the school setting, which is very reassuring that our system is working and so we just need to be vigilant and reduce the transmission in the community.”
