The City of Kamloops says the second stage of upgrades to the McArthur Island Ring Road will start next Monday, March 22.
Parks Manager Jeff Putnam says the $350,000 upgrade will include repaving 650m of the northern section of the road as well as the pathway between 12th Street and the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association (KYSA) offices.
While work is underway, the ring road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
“The road will reopen every evening at 5:00 p.m. until the following morning and will remain accessible on weekends,” Putnam said. “During the closure, pedestrians will have alternative access via the centre access road. The KYSA and Kamloops Sports Council offices will be offered access through the service road as well.”
All visitors to the park are encouraged to park at the east end near Norbrock Stadium or the Sport and Event Centre and walk along the service road.
“This project will not impact access to the vaccination clinic at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre,” added Putnam, noting the work should wrap up by mid-April.
The first phase of project – which included repaving the southern section of the road and a new multi-use pathway – was completed in 2020.
