All adults in Logan Lake will be able to get a COVID-19 vaccine during a three-day clinic next month.
Mayor Robin Smith says residents aged 18 and older will be able to get a vaccine dose between April 13-16, with Interior Health having a clinic set up at the curling rink at the Logan Lake Recreation Centre.
“That was a really nice surprise. We were expecting originally June or July, but they got back to us with a date of mid April. It’s a nice break for the community, that’s for sure.”
Smith says it’s unclear exactly how many vaccine doses the community will be getting, or which company will be providing them. Most rural B.C. communities have received doses from Moderna, which are widely available and easy to transport.
Smith also says it’s unclear yet exactly how many nurses and how many immunization stations will be at the clinic.
“From what I understand, they’re training everybody up right now. And from what I understand they’re using some local healthcare bodies for that. So it sounds like they’re working through that right now.”
Smith says there are close to 2,000 people in Logan Lake who are 18 and older.
Anyone in the community eligible to get a vaccine ahead of that can get immunized at the Logan Lake Health Centre, on Beryl Drive. That includes anyone who is aged 75 and older or anyone Indigenous who is 55 and older.
Details on how to call and book a vaccine appointment can be found here, on the B.C. government’s website.
