The camping craze continues during COVID-19.
The District of Logan Lake says it had more than 900 reservations for its municipal campground on the first day bookings came online.
Mayor Robin Smith says 2020 was record year for visitors, with more people staying close to home during the pandemic.
“We had an incredibly successful year at the campground last year, so we knew we should be prepared for another busy season. But that was a nice surprise, I believe it was in the ballpark, more than 900 bookings in the first day we opened the online reservation system.”
The campground is open from May 15 to Oct. 12. Unlike BC Parks system right now, where campers can book two months in advance, Smith says people can reserve sites at the Logan Lake campground for any point in the year.
Smith says there could be a new investment at the park this year, in the form of a playground.
“Because we’ve got a nice playground and waterpark already for the older ones on the other end [of Logan Lake], but for the little ones it would be nice to maybe have a localized park on the campground end. So that’s one of the things that’s in the works, as far as budgets go this year,” Smith says.
She points out a $200,000 trail project was done last spring to connect the campground to the scenic Mimi Falls.
“We did add the Mimi Falls trail last year, so that was a big addition, it’s accessible right from the campground. It definitely will be a nice addition for this year. Not anything new quite yet, but we’re not quite through the budget process either yet. So there may still be things to come.”
