A small wildfire has been reported in the Lac Du Bois grasslands.
It’s listed at 0.8 hectares in size, and is near Lac Du Bois Road and Wheeler Mountain Road.
A small plume of smoke could be clearly seen last night at that location, from Sahali and Aberdeen. The smoke has died down today and it appears the fire is under control.
Also, skies were clear when the fire started, and it appears it was human-caused.
At time of posting, there were four active wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre, with the other three listed as under control by the BC Wildfire Service. Those include a 21 hectare fire north of Lytton, an 11 hectare fire west of Merritt and a spot fire near Summerland.
Fire information officer Kyla Fraser says it’s common to see some fire activity this early in the spring.
“The grass and other fuels are dead from the winter. They haven’t had a chance to green up yet, so they are a little bit volatile,” Fraser told NL News on Monday.
Fraser says these early-season fires are good reminders to be careful with any burning.
