A snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche yesterday in the Southern Cariboo.
South Cariboo Search and Rescue was called to the avalanche at Eureka Peak at about 4 p.m., west of Wells Gray Park and east of Williams Lake.
Police say a 37-year-old man was buried in the snow after the avalanche happened. The victim was with a group of people at the time, and there was no word on any other injuries.
Search teams flew in on a helicopter and were unable to land because of treacherous conditions. Crews are now returning to the scene this morning.
The public is being asked to stay away from Eureka Peak today, with Williams Lake RCMP saying avalanche control work may go on.
According to Avalanche Canada, the avalanche risk is “considerable” today in the alpine of the Cariboo ranges.
