For the second straight year, the BC Wildlife Park’s annual Easter Egg hunt event has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Park staff say they remain committed to following the health orders put in place by Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, to ensure the safety of both park staff and guests.
“To ensure we do our part in following the current restrictions in preventing the gathering of crowds; there will be no animal encounters, feed talks, face painting, family farm, or egg hunts,” a statement said. “Indoor galleries are also temporarily closed; however, we encourage you to enjoy our abundance of outdoor space.”
General Manager Glenn Grant previously told NL News they’re preparing for a ‘normal’ season this year, as COVID-19 restrictions meant 50,000 fewer visitors last year. However, Grant noted things could still look different as events are cancelled or modified, depending on the situation.
“I don’t think things will ever be the same as they were but trying to get the experience that is pleasant and people can participate in different activities,” Grant said. “I do think is important to plan ahead for and to strive for, and make adjustments as health restrictions and orders dictate.”
The Wildlife Express Miniature Train will be operating from April 2 to 5 between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Train rides are $1, and all passengers over the age of two have to wear a mask of a face covering.
Starting March 1, the BC Wildlife Park returned to normal operating hours seven days a week after reduced hours over the winter.
