A CBC news vehicle in downtown Kamloops was vandalized over the weekend.
Posts began emerging on social media early Sunday evening about the news cruiser being tagged with the words “fake news,” with someone dumping paint on the vehicle as well. A black SUV parked nearby also had a line of paint splattered on the windshield.
The vehicle was parked near 2nd Avenue and Lansdowne Street, and the incident happened before dark on Sunday, either in the mid-to-late afternoon or early evening.
“One of our vehicles was vandalized and in light of what happened, over the next few days, we are adding security personnel. Once we’ve had some time to assess the situation more thoroughly, we may implement new security measures going forward,” CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson tells NL News.
“While we have no idea who is responsible for this incident, we do know we live in different times and the media has been under attack. Needless to say, our number one concern is always the safety and well being of our employees and we will do whatever we can to keep them safe.”
There is no word on any suspects in the incident. NL News reached out to Kamloops RCMP early Tuesday and has not yet heard back.
“Fake news” was a slogan coined by former U.S. president Donald Trump during his past presidential mandate.
